What do you guys think about Tumblr’s plans to monetize its services in some way? Right now there are really no details except this picture. So let’s look at some hypotheticals. I’d love to hear which you would support or wouldn’t support.
A.) $1 per/? for Tumblr service usage. (Day pass, Monthly pass, Yearly pass)
B.) $1 per/# Like Credits (to give other people Likes)
C.) $1 per/# Reblog Credits (to Reblog other people’s content)
D.) $1 per/# Posting Credits (to be able to post original content)
E.) $1 per/# Syndication Credits (to allow others to reblog your content)
F.) $1 per/# Subscription Credits (to be able to follow a certain number of people)
G.) $1 per/# Subscriber Credits (to allow over a certain number of people to follow you)
Personally, I support all of these revenue models, although I doubt it would be credits for Posting, Reblogging, or Syndication since that could put a serious dent in number of posts being generated. Chances are it will be Likes… which would actually encourage reblogging as an alternative for those who don’t want to buy credits. And my guess is there will be some sort of pay-it-forward system for the likes you collect from others.
It’s also possible $1 might buy you a certain number of people you can follow or vice versa. That model has been talked about for Twitter for a while.
I just think Tumblr’s a great service. And I don’t think it’s great because it’s free. I think it’s great because of how it helps facilitate and enrich my interaction with a lot of really interesting people and content. I’d pay for that.
You?

I wouldn’t pay, it’s as simple as that. I’m a full time, unemployed student on a government stipend - I just can’t afford to throw even a dollar at a non-essential expense. I’d have to leave Tumblr… not something I’d want to do, but would have to.

Hmm. Well, I know I would pay to keep tumblr, as I love it so. Paying for each “like” or reblog or something, I wouldn’t support so much. But just a general payment to have a blog, I’d do that. I’ve never bothered to pay on any other blog site.

I doubt I’d want to stay on tumblr if I had to pay, but I’m a cheapskate :)

I think it would be too easy to go “over your limit” with per/anything pricing and one could get into serious financial trouble with Tumblr. I’d pay a flat subscription fee, though.

More than one mp3/day. Some users (bands/labels?) might pay for the option to disable reblogs of certain posts (e.g. music tracks). I don’t think charging for what is now basic service would work. But: I would pay to keep the dashboard ad free.

The main reason I use Tumblr is because it’s my awesomely impersonal alternative to Facebook and Twitter. If I had to pay for it, I would probably drop Tumblr too and just read a book.

no point in the rest of us, who may be willing to pay, staying if there’s no one to interact with. just my thoughts. xoxoxo

As much as I enjoy tumblr, I’m not sure how frequently I would use it if I had to pay for it. I don’t have much money so it really just depends how it would work out.

I am afraid much as I enjoy Tumblr, I would not sure I would want to pay for it. The connections I have made are fab but I don’t have many followers so I am not sure I would feel great about posting to such a small audience.
