The world’s oldest known submerged town has been revealed through the discovery of late Neolithic pottery. The finds were made during an archaeological survey of Pavlopetri, off the southern Laconia coast of Greece. The underwater city was discovered in 1967, when it was concluded to be about 2,000 years old, but no further work had been done since. Now, with new survey methods and the discovery of Neolithic ceramics, the city is thought to be at least 5,000 years old. A five-year study of the site is under way.
A lot of old history in the oceans. Let’s use some of these methods in other places. South China Sea maybe?
