Jugendwort des Jahres
German slang spoken by teenagers is not just stupid and impudent as many people say - I think it’s also very creative and hilarious (at least partly ;)). Stuff that me and my friends used to say is out of date of course and would probably be smiled at by today’s teenies ;)
In 2008, the dictionary Langenscheidt came up with the idea of choosing one representative “teenager word” every year - “das Jugendwort des Jahres”. You can actively vote on their website.
Last year’s winner was “die Gammelfleischparty”, a party for people over the age of 30. It literally translates to “moldy meat party” :D
Here are some of the words that you can vote for this year.
die Edelratte (literally: lordly rat) = small dog of famous women (e.g. Paris Hilton)
die Aknestäbchen (“: acne sticks) = french fries
die Faltenparty (“: wrinkle party) = family celebration
