I'm from... a City
-
(New York City - At the rehearsal dinner for a good friend's wedding. I'm introduced to a friend of the bride's.)
-
Me: You look very familiar. I feel like we've met before.
-
Her: Hmm, I'm not sure.
-
Me: Are you from LA?
-
Her: Ha! No.
-
Me: Oh... um... well have you been out there visiting? Maybe I met you at one of Erin's get togethers.
-
Her: No. I don't do LA.
-
Me: ...
-
(Next day at the wedding I'm striking up convo with another guest.)
-
Him: And where are you from?
-
Me: LA.
-
Him: Oh man. You like it there?
-
Me: ...
-
(Later in the evening striking conversation with yet another New Yorker.)
-
Her: It's in <insert neighborhood>.
-
Me: I don't know where that is, actually. I'm not from New York.
-
Her: Where do you live?
-
Me: Los Angeles.
-
Her: Really? Cool.
-
Me: Yeah, it's funny but I'm learning that the best way to tell people that is not to abbreviate Los Angeles.
-
Her: I'm sorry but I really hate that city.
-
Me: ... *sigh*
